Since 1882, the Coady Family blacksmiths have been an integral part of the history and heritage of St. John's, Newfoundland. In the days when tools were made by hand, heated and hammered at the fire, and milk was delivered to your door by horse and wagon, the blacksmith's forge was the heart of industry in the city. Over the last century and then some, many a child has watched from the doorway, wide-eyed at the flames and the sound of the hammer.
These days the horseshoes have all but disappeared and modern welding is the primary focus of our business but our fire is still burning as we sharpen picks and digging bars or fabricate a unique piece of art. There are still some things that cannot be done any other way. Our business is a fascinating blend of the old and the new.
Visitors to our shop are often full of questions about the history of the business and if Ron Coady is on the premises, there's always a story to be told!
We may not be related, but you’ll feel like we’re family.
